Within the program of modernisation and conversion of the refinery into a petrochemical operation scheme, the investments with impact on the environment aim at:
- reducing the NOx and CO2 emissions, through:
- the modernisation of the burners from the Vacuum and Atmospheric Distillation Unit (DAV), consisting of the installation of new burners, replacement of the liquid fuel with gaseous fuel, as well as the introduction of the burner management system.
- reducing the SO2 emissions, by means of:
- the modernisation of the Gas Desulfurization and Sulfur Recovery Unit (DGRS);
- the modernisation of the amine washing units.
- reducing the non-renewable resources consumption, by means of:
- the reduction of the water consumption:
- the modernisation of the recycled water cooling towers in order to increase their capacity and efficiency;
- the optimization of the system for steam generation and utilization system and the recovery of the steam condensate;
- the increase of the crude oil processing efficiency by means of implementing a complex for obtaining and separating the aromatic hydrocarbons.
- preventing the pollutants emissions (oil products) in the soil and groundwater, by means of:
- the modernisation of the oil products storage tanks, with concrete cogs and collecting vessels connected to the sewage.
Information regarding the consequences on the environment of the activities carried out by RAFO.
During the fourth quarter of 2011 RAFO, continued the activities of modernisation and rehabilitation of the sites and their reintegration within the industrial circuit.
During this period the following units were operational:
- the steam boiler ;
- the water collection and treatment unit;
- the water demineralization unit;
- the wastewater treatment unit.
The emissions of pollutants in the air and in the treated waters discharged in the Trotus River were below the limit values stipulated by the Integrated Environmental Authorization.
The decommissioning/demolition as well as the investment works are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Agreements.
